Dermatopathology

A dermatopathologist is a medical doctor specializing in diseases of the skin, hair, and nails at a microscopic level. When a biopsy is taken from a patient, the tissue is then sent to a laboratory for processing. This processing produces microscope slides of the biopsy, which can then be interpreted under the microscope by the dermatopathologist. As a subspecialty of both dermatology and pathology, dermatopathology is a challenging field, so it is important to have your skin biopsies interpreted by a board-certified dermatopathologist for the most accurate assessment.
